Blue Flag Marinas in Turkey: how many and which Ones are There

The blue flag marinas in Turkey are a clear sign of this country’s commitment to premium and quality tourism. In a recent post, we showed you the beaches with this distinction (the third most worldwide), and now it’s the turn of the marinas that have earned this recognition.

How many are there and Why

There are many blue flag marinas in Turkey. In total, 30, a figure that makes the country seventh in the world ranking, only behind Croatia, Italy, Germany, Spain, France and the Netherlands; and ahead of other countries with a great maritime tradition, such as Greece and Portugal.

The 30 blue flag marinas in Turkey have won this award for their good practices in three areas:

  • Environmental information and education, with projects to respect and disseminate the marine and coastal wealth of the environment
  • Environmental management, with an adequate policy on waste, hygiene, etc.
  • Safety and services, with rescue strategies, first aid, accessibility, etc.

Therefore, the blue flag marinas in Turkey are a guarantee of quality and awareness, capable of satisfying the expectations of the most demanding travelers in terms of navigation and services.

Istanbul, Cosmopolitan and Maritime

In this list of blue flag marinas, we can mention Istanbul: although there are no beaches in its immediate surroundings, there are several top-quality marinas, where you can dock a boat with all services. This is the case of Tarabya Tekne Park and İstinye Tekne Park, in the northwestern sector of the Bosphorus Strait, and Atakoy Marina, in the south of the city, already on the coast of the Sea of Marmara.

The West Istanbul Marina can also be considered a port that offers service to the city, at its western end. And the fifth marina in the Sea of Marmara with a blue flag is Setur Yalova Marina, in the city of Yalova.

Aegean Coast, many Possibilities

Of course, the Aegean Sea coast concentrates most of the blue flag marinas in Turkey. An important epicenter is the Izmir area, with a marina in the city (İzmir Marina) and several in its surroundings (Marin Alacatı in Çesme and Oasis Marina in Foça). In addition, Kusadasi, a reference city for cruises to the Greek Islands, does not miss its appointment (Setur Kusadasi Marina)

Further south, between Bodrum and Marmaris, the blue flag marinas are also numerous. Of course, that of the city of Bodrum (Bodrum Milta Marina), but a few kilometers around there is also Yalikavak Marina and D-Marin Turgutreis (not counting the marinas of the Greek islands located just opposite. And Marmaris is not far behind, with Marmaris Adakoy Marina and Marti Marina.

The Charm of the Turquoise Coast

If we talk about marinas and recreational boating in Turkey, the Turquoise Coast quickly comes to mind. And in this charming sector there are several marinas, especially in Fethiye, an authentic symbol of this coastline that treasures the highest density of this type of port: D-Marin Gocek Marina, Marintürk Göcek Village Port and Marintürk Göcek Exclusive. Further south, in the picturesque town of Kas, we find Makmarin Kas Marina.

Antalya and Alanya, the Flags of the Mediterranean

Finally, the blue flags of the Mediterranean complete this list: two in Antalya and its surroundings (G Marin Kemer and Setur Antalya Marina) and two in Alanya (Alanya Marina and Gazipaşa Gold Marina).

On the other hand, the coast of the Black Sea, for now, does not have any marina with a blue flag. However, the list will surely be expanded in the coming years, giving rise to new marinas of recognized quality.
